Story of JVS House Beneficiary in Lombok Timur

Nusa Tenggara Barat is one of 38 provinces in Indonesia country. The location of Nusa Tenggara
Barat is nearby Bali province. There are 8 regencies and 2 municipalities under Nusa Tenggara Barat
province. The poverty line in West Nusa Tenggara in March 2025 is 11.78% (654,570 people), while
in Lombok Timur, where JVS implement the house project, is 14.51% (197,630 people). In this initial
project, JVS is building 6 proper houses to 6 families in need. We describe the beneficiary profiles
below:

1. Amak Mukminah Family
Amak Mukminah (80 y.o) and his wife Sahnun (30 y.o) is one of the beneficiaries of the house
donated by JVS. They live with their only daughter, Zahrotul Aini (5 y.o). Due to Amaq Mukminah
is elederly, he can not work hard anymore like he was still young. He works as a farming labour in
another island, Bima. He only can give money to his wife IDR 100,000 monthly. We can not
imagine how this family can fulfil their life need with IDR 100,000 every month. She uses this
money to buy spices and other urgent need. This family eat with condiment and vegetables that
she gets from the yard surrounding their house, no other side dishes even tempeh or other. They
eat meat once a year when they get qurban meat from the mosque. For clothing, they can not
buy the new one even in Eid day. They hey get clothes from neighbours who care about them.
They live in a very modest bamboo walled house which full of holes, no electricity, no water
source and no sanitation facility. At night they sleep on the floor which covered by mat. During
the rainy season, their house is splashed with rainwater because the bamboo walls of his house
has holes. The bamboo walls are not fully cover the house.

2. Amaq Sumi Family
Amaq Sumi lives with his wife Atun Hasanah and their 3 kids; Ratna, Husen and Hasan. Amaq
Sumi works as farming labour at his neighbours. He will work and get income when his neighbour
requires him to work at their farming. Amaq Sumi never study at any school level, so he has no
skill to work in other sector. His income is only to cover their life need such as food and their kids.
Their kids study at the kindergarten and primary school. Due to limited income, their house is still
modest, bamboo walls, no plastered, and no electricity. They get a power line from the neighbort
to light a lamp.

3. Saptiyah Family
Saptiyah (40 y.o) lives with her 3 kids, they are Maulida (9), Sani (7) and Enji (3). Her husband
passed away around 2 years ago. She works as a farming labour at her neighbours with wage IDR
40,000 per day. However, she works when her neighbours give a job to her. Her bamboo house is
rickety, no plastered, no sanitation facility, even the back of the house is almost collapse. To get
water, she has to walk around 600 meters to get access water from water spring for cooking,
bathing and others.

4. Nurasiyah Family
Nurasiah (39 y.o) is the family head for her 5 kids, they are Ali (19), Lidia (16), Diki (13), Akhtar (6)
and Kurniati (6). Her husband divorced her around a year ago. Her husband never gives any
financial assistance for their kids. She works as a cleaner at the Village Government Office with
salary IDR 500,000 per month. She has to manage her salary to fulfil her family life needs with five kids. Her first and second kids help her to work any jobs they get. Their house has no partitionfor bedroom and kitchen, no sanitation facility. They take water from their neighbour’s well forcooking and shall take bath and wash their clothes at their neighbour’s facility.

5. Sahrum Family Sahrum is elderly woman who live with 3 grandkids, namely Maya, Mila and Juanda. She works asa labour with small income because she can not work hard anymore. The mother of the childrenis living in Singapura as migrant worker. However, their mother is facing problem in Singapurabecause she ran away from her workplace which treated him arbitrarily. She was arrested by Singapore police and will be deported. Since she worked in Singapore, she never sends any money from Singapura to Ibu Sahrum and kids. Ibu Sahrum shall responsible to fulfil daily needs to her grandchildren. They often eat with rice and chilli sauce.

They live at a modest old, weathered and rickety bamboo house. Their house is at risk. If raining,the rainwater enters their house, and they have to refuge to their relative’s house. There is nopartition between bedroom and its kitchen. They sleep at the floor.
